Filmed using an up-close and personal approach with a cinema verite style, « ONCE UPON 6 TIMES » is a heartwarming film about learning human values and the transition from childhood to puberty.
« At the beginning of this project, my intention was to follow six kids during their six years in elementary school. I wanted to observe how they assimilated the values taught to them in the alternative educational system, and how it affected their behavior. As I evolved within the process, I realized that the film wasn’t just about children in a school learning Values. That was the pretext of the story, but a bigger picture soon started to surface from the footage, the more I dug into it. How is personality built? What makes children become who they are? Are their roots, and their past, responsible for something? » director Liane Simard said.
A native of Saguenay, Quebec, Liane Simard is an independent filmmaker, lecturer, and author, and has been an acting coach for more than 20 years.
Her previous film, La boîte (The Box), which she wrote, produced and directed, was presented at the World Film Festival and the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois.
